The Snow of 2010

When you are a rancher and you are hit with 6 inches of snow the rancher's wives are busy taking care of gods littlest creatures, the baby calves that are born in the wintery mess. This calf was born just as the snow was beginning to fall and even though the mother was there licking him off and taking care of him, hypothermia was beginning to set in. So here he is are "shut-in" laying by the hot, hot fire warming up. By the end of the day the baby was back with him mom in the barn and later that week back out in the pasture with the rest of the herd.
Drying him off warming him by the fire

Filling his stomach with warm milk

Up and ready for outside

Feeling better and out at the barn with the cow.

Back in February we had some major snow come to our part of the area that only happens once every 15 years. We measured with a ruler that about 6 inches had fallen. This kids thought they were in Heaven until they realized that snow may be fun but it is cold and wet. I loved the snow. I was outside for a good part of the day just walking around looking at how beautiful the home place looked with it covered in white. Enjoy the pictures from our Winter Wonder Land.
